HPV Virus

•  HPV or Human Papilloma Virus is a DNA virus with more than 100 subtypes.
• They can cause warts or certain types of cancer. 
• Types that cause warts are usually type 6 and type 11. 
• The types with the highest probability of causing cancer are type 16 and type 18. 
• It can remain hidden in the body for a while without symptoms. 

•  HPV infection is a contagious disease. The presence of warts is the clearest indicator of the active state of the infection. Therefore, the presence of warts further increases the contagion. 
• The person may scratch the wart by himself and cause the wart to spread to a large area, and it may also cause it to be transmitted to another person, especially through sexual intercourse.  
• However, it should not be forgotten that HPV can sometimes remain hidden in the body without causing warts. Even if these people do not have warts, they can transmit HPV to someone else. Therefore, it is not necessary to have warts for the virus to be transmitted. 

•  The HPV virus is usually transmitted sexually. However, in a study, it was stated that HPV infection can be seen at a rate of 14.8% in people who have never had sexual intercourse.  
• Although using a condom reduces HPV contagion, unfortunately it does not completely prevent it.

•  In a study, at least 70-80% of women are infected with the HPV virus at least once in their lifetime. Therefore, it is a very common infection in the community. 

• There is no definitive treatment for HPV currently. But don't worry, it's possible to get rid of HPV completely. So how will this happen? According to studies, the chance of removal of HPV from the body is approximately 70-80% within 2 years. We owe this to the natural immune response. Therefore, the stronger our immune system, the higher our chance of getting rid of HPV. 
• Of course, we also have some treatment methods to help our immune system and speed up the process. For example, if you have warts, you must first get rid of them completely.

•  Warts are one of the most important factors that increase the contagiousness of HPV. If warts are left untreated, they can increase viral load, spread further and make treatment more difficult, and infect others. 
• Apart from this, it may cause itching, pain, and sometimes bleeding. In addition, it can spread over a large area and cause an image that is quite disturbing.

Warts can be burned, frozen or removed entirely.

• Cauter, laser or some solutions can be used to burn it. Burned or frozen warts are expected to fall off on their own within a week or two. These burning or freezing processes are applied only to the wart and pain is not felt.

• Among the wart burning methods, chemical burning is one of the most practical and does not require any anesthesia. A special solution is used for the procedure and is completely safe. Other burning methods may require a small amount of local anesthesia to prevent pain. In this way, pain is not felt during the procedure.
• Warts may continue to appear in different areas until the HPV virus is completely eliminated by your immune system. In such a case, the wart treatment is repeated.

•  No, some types of HPV do not cause warts. They do not even cause a visible lesion. They sneak into your cells and cause cancer over the years. This group of HPV types is called high-risk HPV types. 

•  HPV types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68 are considered high-risk subtypes to cause cancer. In particular, types 16 and 18 are the types responsible for most cervical cancers and are the HPV types that pose the highest risk. 

•  HPV virus plays a very important role especially in cervical cancer by disrupting the cell structure. The smear test gives information about the degree of this cell disruption.
• Therefore, the smear test does not evaluate whether the person has the virus, but provides information about whether the cells have deteriorated. Thus, before the cells turn into cancer, at the stage of cell deterioration, by looking at the degree of this deterioration, it is determined whether the person carries a cancer risk. 
• If the cellular deterioration is advanced, the area containing these cells is cleaned and cancer is prevented before it occurs. 
• When HPV and smear test are used together, very high success is achieved in preventing cervical cancer.
